Foreman Development Series (FDS)

The IBEW's Foreman Development Series (FDS) is a comprehensive training program designed to enhance the skills and knowledge of foremen and journeymen in the electrical construction industry. This interactive series uses modules focused on industry best practices, aiming to engage, educate, and empower field leaders. The FDS is a robust, multi-lesson program that replaces the previously offered Electrical Project Supervision (EPS) course.

All current and future foreman, upcoming leaders

Program Structure

2 Focus Areas – Covering 16 modules essential for field leadership

1. Foreman Fundamentals
2. Planning and Resource Management

Day 1

• Role of the Foreman: Covers duties, union and contractor responsibilities, leadership, crew engagement, and TIMERS.
• Project Start-Up: Covers scope, startup documents, methods, and procedures for a strong project launch.
• Specifications: Defines scope and rules for building the job right the first time.
• Labor Relations: Covers expectations, misconduct, progressive discipline, and the Code of Excellence.

Day 2

• Material Management: Covers ordering, storing, staging, and handling materials effectively.
• Man-Loading & Scheduling: Covers manpower planning, curve flattening, and building a three-week look-ahead.
• Managing Production: Covers systems that improve efficiency and reduce rework through early audits.
• Safety: Reinforces top-down safety leadership, no shortcuts, and use of the Hierarchy of Controls

A longtime IBEW-NECA partner and trusted voice in leadership development, Amanda has worked closely with various IBEW Locals and NECA chapters across the country.
