1. Acronyms and Fundamentals of Earned Value Management (EVM)

• Key concepts of EVM: Budgeted value/cost (PV), Earned Value (EV), and Actual Cost (AC).
• Cost Performance Index (CPI)
• Schedule Performance Index (SPI)
• Estimate at Completion (EAC).
• BCWS: budgeted cost of work scheduled (planned)
• BCWP: budgeted cost of work performed (earned value)
• ACWP: actual cost of work performed (actual)
• BAC: budget at completion
• EAC: estimated cost at completion

• Steps for integrating EVM into project planning and execution.
• Setting up a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and cost accounts. Collecting data for PV, EV, and AC in construction.

• Quantity installed as measured
• Partial percent complete
• Milestones approach
• Binary approach.

5. EARNED VALUE SPREADSHEET

• Work breakdown structure
• Budgeted manhours, weighted value, remaining manhours
• Budgeted quantity, unit of measure and unit rate
• Budgeted quality, through last period, this period, to date
• Set up a project tracking spreadsheet

6. PERFORMANCE EVALUATION

• Manpower loading curve
• Hanna’s control point
• Project S curve
• Performance factor or quarterback rating
• Manhours forecast for project completion
• Indicates Early Warning Signs of potential project outcomes

7. PROGRESS REPORTING

• Weekly, biweekly or monthly

Course Cancellation Policy:
There will be no charge for cancellations made by May 31st, 2026. 50% will be charged from June 1st, 2026, to June 4th, 2026. June 5th, 2026, and beyond, as well as no-shows, will be charged the full registration price. The full course price of $400 per WI Chapter NECA member and $550 for non-member will be charged for cancellations and no-shows. Attendee substitutions are welcome at any time.
